Portable monitor OEM / ODM: the customisation process and what to prepare

From driver board and product ID to structure design and shell tooling, eight stages make up the customisation chain — with a checklist of what to prepare before you inquire and volume engineering criteria.

We build our own SIBOLAN brand and take OEM and ODM orders at home and abroad. What follows covers the boundary of what can be customised, the stages from requirement to volume production, detailed delivery timelines, and the information worth preparing before you inquire.

What can be customised and engineering depth

These capabilities are handled by our in-house 10-person R&D team rather than outsourced, spanning complete hardware circuit design through physical tooling.

  • Driver-board customisation: Original RTD / Mstar / Allwinner chipsets with custom boot logos, tailored OSD UI, private EDID strings, and touch protocols
  • Product ID and industrial design: 3D concept rendering, CNC prototyping, ultra-slim CNC alloy casing, and narrow bezel architecture
  • Structure design and shell tooling: In-house tooling for die-cast aluminium casings, continuous-friction damping hinges, and magnetic folding stands
  • Small-quantity agile manufacturing: Flexible assembly line balancing for low-risk initial market testing
  • Marking and packaging: Laser etching, high-precision silkscreen, full-color retail gift packaging, and custom high-density EPE foam inserts
  • Intellectual property: Complete proprietary IP portfolio with bilingual patent documentation to satisfy customs and marketplace compliance audits

Eight stages from requirement to volume and delivery timelines

Each stage maps to a dedicated engineering owner and project manager. Lead times are fixed in writing upon project confirmation.

  • 1 Requirement and feasibility review (1–2 business days): Verify panel availability, interface bandwidth, power specs, and MOQ target
  • 2 R&D and board engineering (3–7 business days): PCB layout, firmware flashing, keypad board, and backlight driver tuning
  • 3 Structure and appearance ID design (3–5 business days): 3D CAD modeling, thermal dissipation analysis, hinge friction life, and tolerance checks
  • 4 Prototype machining and validation (5–10 business days): CNC working sample fabrication, assembly testing, and display signal verification
  • 5 Shell tooling and T1 sample (15–25 business days, tooling projects only): Die-cast steel machining, injection testing, and anodizing surface treatment
  • 6 Pilot production (3–5 business days): 50–100 unit trial run to freeze standard operating procedures (SOP) and assembly jigs
  • 7 Mass automated production & 100% QC (10–15 business days): Dual automated lines running in parallel with 100% 4-hour power-on burn-in testing
  • 8 Packaging and export dispatch (2–3 business days): Anti-static sealing, drop tests, palletizing, and customs clearance paperwork

What to prepare before you inquire

Supplying these six baseline specifications allows our technical team to return a formal quotation and engineering proposal within 24 hours:

  • 1 Target screen size and form factor: Single panel (13.3–17.3"), dual foldable, or triple workstation (14.0–18.5")
  • 2 Resolution and panel grade: 1080P FHD, 2.5K QHD, 4K UHD, standard IPS or self-lit OLED (gamut targets such as 100% sRGB or 88% Adobe RGB)
  • 3 Interface and feature requirements: Full-featured USB-C (single-cable plug-and-play), Mini HDMI, gravity auto-rotation, or 10-point capacitive touch
  • 4 Initial pilot quantity and annualized volume forecast: e.g., 100 units initial order, 500–1,000 units quarterly reorders
  • 5 Custom branding deliverables: Laser etching, boot screen logo, bespoke full-color gift box, and multi-language user manuals
  • 6 Target country certification standards: European Union (CE / RoHS), North America (FCC), Japan (PSE), and other mandatory test documentation

Core working terms and commercial guarantees

  • Flexible MOQ: Standard housing units start at 50 pcs with laser branding; custom tooling MOQs evaluated per engineering depth
  • Warranty: 12-month full factory warranty, with 1% free-of-charge (FOC) wear parts or immediate replacement backup
  • Fast engineering response: 7 × 24 hour sales and engineering availability, with revised technical drawings within 48 hours
  • R&D pipeline: Continuous introduction of 5 new designs per month (spanning high-refresh gaming, ultra-bright triple displays, and slim dual screens)
  • Global compliance: Fully certified under CCC, CE, RoHS, and FCC, backed by Intertek and SGS factory audit verification
